Operation Hugs was initiated in 1999 to bring an extra measure of comfort to victims being treated for the trauma of sexual assault and abuse at the Inova Fairfax Hospital Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program. Each year, the SANE Program serves about 550 patients. Approximately 65% of these patients are under 16 years old and about 65% are female. |
Returns dignity to victims of sexual assault and abuse by enabling them to return home with new clothing and essential hygiene items. |
Offers comfort pillows to children treated at community pediatric clinics for children of low income families. |

Provides new clothing, shoes, blankets and personal grooming products to children from families with extreme need. |
Provides one-on-one support to children to enhance their English verbal and comprehension skills through a home-based reading program. |
Provides additional equipment and clothing to those in need. |
Provides nutritious food and snacks to children who receive free or reduced priced meals during the week. |
