Meeting the basic needs of children in low-income schools we serve

Celebrating 20 Years

2024 marks our 20th Anniversary and we’re celebrating all year long! As part of this celebration we’ll feature a different monthly wish list. During March, we’re wishing for some basic sweat pants and leggings in a variety of sizes and colors for our kids. With every act of giving, you help shape a better world. So check out the options, make your selections at https://tiny.alnv.org/wish/leggins, and bring the gift of warmth and comfort to a child today!

Spring Luncheon!

Join us on April 28th as we present A Literary Luncheon and Fundraiser at the Chantilly National Golf and Country Club. Enjoy a guest-driven discussion with our featured authors – Judith Pearson and Christopher Gorham – who will discuss their recent biographies of two women who had a significant impact on mid-century America and beyond. In addition to great food and discussion, we’ll be conducting a silent auction that includes amazing offers from a painter and a jeweler, plus season tickets to the Manassas Ballet, together with at least one fabulous weekend getaway.  We will also have a live auction that includes trips for two to incredible destinations around the world! Proceeds support our many philanthropic programs.  Assistance League does not receive federal, state, or local funding; our programs are made possible by your generosity.

Clothes Encounters of the Best Kind!

For our 20th anniversary celebration this month, we seek your help in providing students with leggings and sweatpants for the growing children in the 8 Title 1 elementary schools we serve.  As you make your purchases, remember that every act of giving, no matter how big or small, can shape a better world.  Help us continue our legacy of providing basic essentials to children and in need and donate these clothing items this month. Please remember to select Assistance League of Northern Virginia as the shipping address to ensure your donation is delivered directly to us.

Food, Fashion, and Fun!

Our March Weekend Food for Kids packing event was another great success. Our 23 members were joined by 33 Dominion employees, and 12 community volunteers, including friends from Didlake and first-timers from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.  Through this program, we work to ensure that students have food over the weekend, when school-provided meals are […]

Buildings Minds and Imaginations!

March is National Reading Month and what better way to celebrate than to give books to children to read! We recently held a “Build a Child’s Library” book fair at a Title 1 school in Manassas for 500 Pre-K through 5th-grade students. Each student selected a book from the new books we displayed on tables […]

Good Clean Fun!

About 30 Assistance League members gathered recently to pack 756 packages of toiletries in less than an hour and deliver them to six Title 1 schools in Fairfax and Prince William counties.  Upper-grade students received the packets in connection with their hygiene lessons.  Each package contained a washcloth and soap, toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, […]
